The Gulf Research Center (GRC) is an independent research institute located in Dubai , United Arab Emirates (UAE). The GRC was founded in July 2000 by Mr. Abdulaziz Sager, a Saudi businessman, who realized that in a world of rapid political, social and economic change, it is important to pursue politically neutral and academically sound research about the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and disseminate the knowledge obtained as widely as possible. The GRC seeks to provide a better understanding of the challenges and prospects of the GCC countries. Vision: Knowledge for all. Objectives: GRC was established to achieve the following main objectives: - Conducting objective and scholarly research bearing on political, economic, social and security issues, as they relate to the GCC states in particular and the Gulf region in general.
- Promoting communication and cooperation among GCC citizens, along with propagating information about the GCC states and the Gulf region through a series of conferences and workshops the GRC holds and hosts.
- Publishing and disseminating relevant and useful information and data on the GCC states within and outside the region.
- Interacting with and answering the needs and requirements of individuals and/or corporate organizations, including GCC nationals and expatriates living in the GCC countries, university students, academics, the press community, businessmen, and decision-makers.
To achieve its main objectives, GRC adopts and applies a number of approaches and policies: - A rigorous compliance with international stylistic, publishing and refereeing standards. GRC employs some distinguished and outstanding scholars and researchers who execute the Center's programs and activities, in addition to a number of certified experts and members of its academic consultative board.
- To enlist a number of young and promising researchers and experts to participate in the Center's activities and programs, offering them an opportunity to communicate and interact with more experienced researchers.
- To inject whatever income back into new research programs and activities. As such, GRC is able to preserve and maintain its independence and continuity.
Mission Statement: The GRC is committed to making knowledge available for all. The Center aims to enrich and foster academic and intellectual understanding of the political, economic, security, social, educational and environmental issues relevant to the Gulf region through objective research. In order to facilitate reforms in the region and secure a better future for its citizens, the Center also promotes communication, collaboration and dialogue using its media, education provider, and information dissemination and consultancy services. The Center is also devoted to facilitating dialogue among scholars specialized in Gulf affairs, both within and outside the region. Activities and services: - Research: Conducting research on Gulf issues.
- Providing education Solutions: through Implementing the 'knowledge program', which targets higher management circles in the fields of politics, economics, business administration and security from an international perspective and within a framework of coordination with international universities and institutes. And Offering top-notch training courses for students, especially post-graduate students, government and non-government employees on scientific research methods and applications of modern technologies in research.
- Media: Monitoring news coverage around-the-clock of events and developments in the Gulf region as published, broadcast and/or tele-cast by local, regional and international media.
- Consultancy: preparing studies and offering expert consultation to governmental and non-governmental organizations in different fields within the Center's primary concerns.
- Publishing scholarly books treating topics in the field of social sciences and/or humanities.
Beneficiaries: GRC invites scholars, politicians, media specialists and academics involved in Gulf affairs to share their ideas with us and submit their contributions to GRC. They are also invited to take advantage of the manifold services it offers, and the works it publishes. Technical and Administrative Staff at GRC: Research Department: The research department consists of ten in-house researchers holding Masters and PhD degrees in politics, economics and social sciences. Twelve external researchers holding Masters and PhD degrees work in close coordination with the in-house researchers. The work of this department is managed by a well-experienced PhD-holding researcher with an outstanding record of academic research. GRC also works jointly with a number of other researchers and research centers on a contractual basis, focusing on specific research projects. Translation Department: This is a pivotal department at GRC. It is made up of six professional translators specialized in linguistics, translation, political science, and philosophy. The head of the department is a PhD holder in English literature with an extensive experience in the field of translation and literary writings for over twenty years. More than twenty other translators, mostly freelancers, are affiliated with the department. 'Gulf in the Media' Department: This department has a team of ten highly qualified members. It is headed by an Arabic editor-in-chief whose experience in the media field spans for sixteen years. The English editor-in-chief is a PhD holder in communication and media studies, and a specialist in Gulf affairs. A PhD holder in computer science manages the department. He has been working in the field for over a quarter of a century. He is assisted by a team of thirteen programmers, computer science engineers, web-page designers and multi-media professionals. Administration and Finance Department: The department is headed by an administration specialist who has an accumulated experience of twenty-one years in a number of distinguished universities and institutions in different countries. He is assisted by a team of thirteen employees specialized in different aspects of administration and finance. |
